The College of Agriculture and Food Technology in Prokuplje is an independent college institution which has been performing educational and scientific activities (Professional study courses and Specialist graduate professional study courses in agriculture and food technology) for thirty years. During this period, the College has developed into an educational and professional institution of high reputation. In the school year 2004/05, we introduced three-year studies, with a wish to implement the “Bologna Process”. A student can enroll to one out of five programmes of Professional study courses:
o Fruit science and viticulture; o Crop and vegetable science; o Plant protection; o Animal science, and o Food technology,
as well as two programmes of Specialist graduate professional study courses: o Organic agriculture, and
o
Food
technology. Having passed all the examinations determined by the curriculum, a student is awarded college education diploma and the title of a Professional Engineer of Agriculture, i.e. Professional Engineer of Agriculture- a Specialist. The work of many generations of students and teachers is woven into the history of the College of Agriculture and Food Technology. Every new generation continued the work on achievements of their predecessors, and they left their experiences as a heritage to new generations. Many of them put a lot of effort into this College, as well as into the cultural life of the town and the whole region of Toplica. The mission of the College is determined, up to a point, by its Statute, based on the Law of Education, and it is realized through three main functions-educational work, scientific work and publishing-with a strong orientation towards cooperation with local authorities. Also, the College develops and regional and euro regional cooperation with related institutions. The main objective of the College is to provide the acquisition of the latest scientific and professional knowledge in agriculture and food technology. The College of Agriculture and Food Technology regularly plans and evaluates the results of its programmes, with constant development, improvement and reexamination of their contents, in accordance with new scientific and professional achievements. The teaching staff and students play an important role in it. The College of Agriculture and Food Technology in Prokuplje periodically follows the realization of the planned activities, tasks and goals. Also, it objectively examines the results and takes corrective actions, if necessary. The College follows modern trends and maintains high standards in academic education, trying to keep its reputation in all activities. We offer our students: § modern lectures, given by the qualified teachers. § well-equipped laboratories, and § working knowledge and skills, which provides an efficient system of studying and a short cut in finding a job. Special Activities of the College in agricultural production and new technological processes (primary and processing industry) are of great importance. Those Special Activities are realized in the Research Laboratory (at this mdoment, it is in the process of accrediting) and Institute for Agriculture, which work as separate organizational units within the College.
